Background and Scope of the Symposium

The Asian Symposium on Computational Heat Transfer and Fluid Flow (ASCHT) was organized in Xi'an, China, in 2007 with the intention of encouraging scientific and technical cooperation and exchange among Asian countries. The forum is held every two years to activate not only the scientific and technical communication but also to promote the friendship of members. The upcoming ASCHT will be held at the Kyoto University, in Japan, organized jointly by Heat Transfer Society of Japan, from 22 to 26 September 2011. This conference is the third in the series of biennial symposia started in Xi`an, China (2007), and Jeju, Korea (2009).

This conference aims to provide an international forum for presentation, exchange of ideas and creation of knowledge in recent advances on various aspects of theories, analyses, and applications of computational methods in theoretical and engineering fluid and thermal science. It will bring together researchers and practitioners from academia, research institutions and industry to exchange experiences, disseminate up-to-date information, and explore new opportunities in the field; in particular, it will expose young or new researchers to the state of the art in the field by means of the conferences.

Topics

The principal topics of ASCHT`11 will include but not limited to :

  • Computational heat transfer and fluid dynamics
  • Computational multi-component and multiphase flow
  • Computational heat transfer for reducing CO2 emission
  • Numerical micro/nano fluid dynamics and heat transfer
  • Numerical bio-fluid dynamics and heat transfer
  • Numerical method in multi-scale and multi-physics modeling
  • Industrial heat-transfer applications
  • Experiments relevant to computational heat transfer
Papers in other relevant areas not listed above are also welcomed. All the theoretical and computational aspects and innovative numerical implementation related to the simulation of those processes will be of interest to the conference.

The meeting will be taken place at the Yoshida Main Campus, Kyoto University,in Japan. All conference sessions and keynote lectures of ASCHT11 are held at Kyoto-University Clock-Tower Centennial Hall, which is located on the east side of Kyoto city.

Kyoto University is a long-established national university in Kyoto, Japan, and located at the northeast of Kyoto-city. The university is conveniently located in terms of public transportation and accessed from some stations of Japan Railway (JR), Kyoto-metro (underground railway), Keihan line, Hankyu line, bus-stops of limousine from/to Kansai Int'l Airport. There are traditional sight-seeing spots (Ginkakuji Temple, Heian Jingu Shrine, Philosopher's Walk etc.) near the University.

Kansai Int'l Airport (KIX) in Osaka is the most accessible international airport to Kyoto. From KIX, Limited Express trains, airport limousines or share-ride taxi provides quick and easy transportation to Kyoto. From Tokyo's Narita Airport (NRT), domestic flight to Osaka area or "Shinkansen" bullet train is available to reach Kyoto. For more information, see Kyoto travel guide at Kyoto Tourism Council's website:http://www.kyoto.travel/.
